The Asus Chromebox runs ChromeOS - Google's simplified operating system that only runs the Chrome Browser which in turn runs Google's cloud apps.
Unlike some of the lower priced Chromebooks out there, this desktop model is using a dual core Intel Celeron processor with 2 gigabytes of RAM. It can keep up nicely with most web pages and apps I've tried. It also has an embedded flash player for sites that require flash.
Boot time is incredibly fast and the system is very easy to configure. It will sync up with an existing Google account bringing all of the bookmarks and other settings from a desktop or notebook PC's chrome installation.
The built-in card reader will allow for photos to be transferred automatically to Google+. There's also an option to manually transfer photos as well. I was not able to get it to work with RAW files I shot on my Nikon camera.
The bottom line? If you're comfortable with the limitations of ChromeOS and largely live in the Google eco system this is a very affordable way to get an extra PC in the house.
My next video later this week will demonstrate how to load ubuntu onto the device.
