For many, Vizio remains that budget-friendly brand found on display under the cavernous roofs of Costco warehouse stores, but over the past few years the company has been making a strong and steady climb out of the "tier two" TV designation and into prime position, right along-side the industry's top names. Today at CES 2014, Vizio challenged everyone's pre-conceptions by unveiling its Reference Series 120-inch Ultra HD television, a TV so advanced, it may just make the competition blush.
The 120-inch set incorporates just about every buzz-worthy technical specification in the videophile lexicon, and is the sort of flagship set you'd expect from a top-tier brand. But that's only the start of Vizio's impressive 2014 TV line-up. The company also debuted its first Ultra HD TV line, dubbed the P-series, which incorporates advanced processing tech for impressive picture quality.
Vizio isn't abandoning its core customer base, though. It's premium M-series and entry-level E-series 1080p televisions now feature full-array LED backlighting in every model from 32-inches up. And the company's smart TVs, sized 39-inches and higher, feature some degree of local dimming. That's the kind of technology that has previously been found only in high-end televisions in years past.
Check out our video coverage from an exclusive first look event held before the start of the show. We think you'll agree Vizio is making a power-play for industry-wide recognition, and this may be the year it finally gets it.
