Departing Sunspot Blows M-Flare 'Goodbye Kiss' | Video
Sunspot AR2172-AR2173 erupted with an M7.3-class flare on October 2nd, 2014. The eruption was not Earth-directed, as it was on the Sun's western limb and rotating out of view (as seen by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory). However, according to Spaceweather.com, the UV flash from the flare caused a a brief disturbance in shortwave and VLF radio signals on Earth.
