Skyfall: Usha Uthup at TEDxPune

Ms. Usha Uthup is a Padma Shri Awardee. Little do people know that, when in school, she was dismissed out of her music class because she didn't fit in with a voice like hers. With very little formal training, she has gone on to become one of the most prolific pop, jazz and playback singers that India has produced. She attributes her success to the same teacher who later recognised her potential and would give her clappers or triangles to play and make musical sounds. This encouraged her to surround herself with music and become an advanced practitioner. Today, she is a household name in the country & beyond. She is known for her signature style statement i.e her big bindi, kanjiwaram saris and bangles.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
