Review: EPP Eagle from HobbyKing

This RC plane is made from EPP and goes together fairly quickly - although you will have to build up the fuselage and wings by gluing bits together.
The fit of parts is not so good but that's pretty normal for EPP because it's not such a dimensionally accurate material.
Despite the gaps and need for careful alignment, the build took about 3 hours (plus glue-drying time) and the resulting aircraft looks pretty impressive.
The maiden flight (shown in this video) only needed a couple of clicks of up-trim and it was away.
This model has a very low wing-loading (especially with a 1500mAH 3S battery) so can fly very slowly and it looks quite realistic in the air. Because of this slow flying speed, this is not a model for windy days!
Pro's:
- not too badly priced
- looks like an eagle or a hawk in the air
- very easy to fly
- very quiet
- great for some covert FPV perhaps? :-)
Cons:
- nothing really fits very well
- more work than your average ARF to build
- wont' withstand many crashes
- crappy O-ring prop-saver will perish in very short time
- likewise, rubber bands won't last in the summer sun
All in all, if you're looking for something radically different then this is a pretty cool model and I love it.
The EPP Eagle was purchased at normal retail price from HobbyKing.
