Brightest Young Galaxies Held Biggest Exploding Stars | Artist Animation

Astronomers have finally spotted some of the original stars which created the elements of life. The European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope detected brilliant infant galaxies containing mega-giant simple stars perhaps a thousand imps more massive than our Sun. [Full Story: ]
Such behemoths would have gone supernova just a few millions years after their birth, seeding the surrounding space with oxygen, carbon, iron, nitrogen and other essential building blocks for biology.
