A simulation has been developed to show how the gravitational field of a black hole disrupts a star. As the star is ingested an accretion disk of stellar material is formed. Scientists from the Max-Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics (MPE) sifting through Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) data discovered a black hole, 100 million times more massive than the sun, devouring a star.
