We laced up and reviewed Nike Football's brand new Lighting Storm Mercurial Superfly IV.
Nike's Superfly IV boot was launched prior to the 2014 Brazil World Cup in June 2014. Nike introduced their first ever Superfly boot which featured the innovative FlyWire technology back in 2009. Nike's last Superfly generations were the II and III editions launched back in 2010 and 2011 and since then the range has been overtaken by the Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII and IX generations launched in 2012 and 2013. Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo played a major part in Nike's campaigning and launch of the new Superfly IV boot.
The upper of the new Superfly IV boot will feature NIKESKIN which is also seen on the Hypervenom Phantom boot. Along with NIKESKIN a new Dynamic Fit Collar first seen on the Magista Obra will be used offering enhanced comfort, fit and feel. FlyWire has been implemented for the first time in three years designed to maximise support and fit for an overall enhanced performance. A full length carbon fibre soleplate is added to work naturally with the foot offering super lightweight comfort and traction. The Superfly IV is designed for enhanced ball touch and control at high speeds as well as explosive acceleration and speed from the surface. The Vapor X also be available and will not feature FlyWire or the Dynamic Fit Collar seen on the Superfly IV boot.
The Superfly III silo features a seven layer outsole and is made from carbon-fibre making it flexible, but stiff, helping you transfer your energy from your feet to the studs, boosting that acceleration. The Nike SENSE studs at the front of the foot can extend up to 3mm to give you extra grip in soft ground, but only when you need it. The upper is made from strong, ultra-lightweight flywire technology, with a Teijin synthetic outer, which whilst being ultra-thin still provides the ultimate in durability, fit and comfort for your feet. The best lightweight performance boots on the market come with a perforated sockliner, to reduce that weight further whilst still providing cushioning.
