In response to the CAA's harsh new regulations, the district of Opotiki has revealed itself to be one of the very few districts that takes the rights of its residents seriously. They have created what is surely New Zealand's most drone-friendly district, allowing people to use their drones, toys and RC models in the parks and reserves with only a few simple conditions.
Compare this to the South Waikato District Council who administer the town of Tokoroa in which I live. Their response to the regulation changes has been to effectively strengthen the ban on flying in its parks, reserves and public places.
Chalk and cheese!

Let them know you appreciate the service they're doing for the hobby in this country and let them know that if you're ever in New Zealand on vacation, their district will be on the list of "must visit" places, thanks to their liberal policy on RC flying.
