In part 1 of this review I take a close look at what you get for your money when you buy the top-of-the-line Runner 250 RTF racing quadcopter package from Walkera.
As usual, Walkera come close to hitting the mark but there are some annoying deficiencies:
- weak frame design
- a "flip of death" problem with the ESC/motor combo
- only one set of props (really????)
- no CW/CCW nuts to allow the use of other brand props
- a very marginal charger
- reliance on an 8xAA battery holder for the Devo 7 transmitter
- absolutely awful 5.8GHz antennas for the FPV gear
- failsafe set to "fly away" out of the box
On the plus side:
- everything you need (bar 8 AA batteries) is included in the box
- it really is "ready to fly" -- just charge/fit batteries and props
- an OSD is included
- nice touches such as tools and trainer lead
- the FPV googles (Goggle 2) are surprisingly good
The flight test and other information can be found in part 2 of this review:
