The Asus Chromebook c200 represents a very good value - especially when factoring in its use of an Intel chipset with battery life that rivals that of ARM based Chromebooks in this form factor.
I was expecting a 'snappier' experience out of the device given that it is running an Intel chipset, but it appears as though it is more tuned for battery life than raw performance. After using it for several hours today after I took it out of the box I still have more than 75% of the battery remaining. Battery life north of 10-12 hours is more than feasible based on my testing today.
What's interesting is that although it doesn't feel that much faster than the newly released Samsung Chromebook 2 (which runs ARM hardware similar to smartphones and tablets) the Asus does perform about 10% -12% better on Javascript benchmark tests. It also does better running various flash applications and other processor intensive kinds of applications. It doesn't feel that much faster in every day use, but that additional horsepower might be useful when Google begins allowing Android apps to run on the ChromeOS platform later this year.
So the bottom line? Compared to the Samsung Chromebook 2 the Asus is the smarter buy. Not only is it $75 less expensive at the time I'm writing this, it also has a little more horsepower under the hood.
