Some soft touch controlled recorders used a special timer slider switch that started the machine up in record mode...this was to address the issue with the lack of mechanical controls I mentioned in the video. Many many many people have pointed out the picture I used of soft touch controls is from a tape recorder that also has a timer control switch...which of course instantly makes me a bloody fool who hasn't got a clue...and makes everyone else super-cool guys.
