In his talk, Prof. Dr. Vandervoort gives a snapshot on how mobile technology, wireless sensors and social networks could transform the current health care system into a patient-driven model. Prof. Dr. Vandervoort is a cardiologist at the Ziekenhuis Oost Limburg. He is one of the initiators of the Mobile Health Unit, which is an interdisciplinary research cooperation between Hasselt University, Ziekenhuis Oost Limburg and Jessa Ziekenhuis. Their vision is to apply common technologies, such as smartphones, the Internet and laptops in healthcare.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
