Roger Antonsen received his PhD in computer science in 2008, in the field of logic, proof theory and automated reasoning, from the University of Oslo in Norway. He is an enthusiastic and passionate speaker with a wide variety of interests, in particular juggling, mathematics, and puzzles of all sorts. Through his talks, shows and projects, Roger says he "wants to do science communication in a different way, in order to inspire a new generation of thinkers and remove the common misconceptions about mathematics and computer science". By using microcontrollers, sensors and open source technologies, like Arduino, he is able to demonstrate the mathematics of juggling and the physics of roller coasters in both novel and entertaining ways.
Roger Antonsen w 2008 roku otrzymał tytuł doktora informatyki norweskiego Uniwersytetu w Oslo w dziedzinie logiki, teorii dowodu i automatycznego wnioskowania. Z pasją i zaangażowaniem prowadzi wykłady dotyczące niezwykle wielu zainteresowań, w szczególności żonglerki, matematyki i wszelkiego rodzaju łamigłówek. Jak mówi, w ramach projektów podczas prezentacji i wykładów chce przedstawić kwestie popularno-naukowe tak, by zainspirować nowe pokolenia myślicieli i wyeliminować powszechne błędne wyobrażenia na temat matematyki i informatyki. W ciekawy, nowatorski sposób -- za pomocą mikrokontrolerów, czujników i technologii open source (np. Arduino) -- potrafi objaśnić matematyczne zasady rządzące żonglowaniem czy fizyczne reguły działania kolejki górskiej.
Roger spoke at TEDxKrakow, which took place on 25 October 2013 at Stara Zajezdnia in Kraków's Jewish district. Our theme this year was Make! and was a celebration of making. We asked our speakers to explore and demonstrate the practice, and to ponder what it takes to make more makers. We featured some of Krakow's makers and created a dedicated maker space to encourage our audience of over 600 people to have a go at making something -- anything!
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
