The latest Land Rover Discovery is one of the most practical cars in the world, with space for seven adults across its three rows of seats. The 2.0-litre diesel engine offers impressive economy, while more powerful engines are also available. The Discovery is relaxing and comfortable on the move and handles well for its bulk – it’s is also cheaper than the BMW X5, Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90, but if you want leather seats, you’ll have to upgrade from the entry-level trim – at which point the price advantage disappears.
