I've been flying the DJI Mavic Pro for a while now, and I have a couple tips, tricks, and ideas for capturing awesome aerial shots!
1. The Mavic FOV (field of view) is more narrow than the Phantom's wide angle lens, it almost feels "zoomed in". To best utilize this:
a. Get super close to objects in the foreground, and the lens will make it look like you're even closer than real life!
b. Hit small gaps and openings (flip into Sport mode to prevent object avoidance sensors from bouncing it back)
2. KISS: keep it simple stupid (my favorite rule of thumb :) Simple push-ins or pull-backs, especially with the narrow FOV, allow objects and close-up landscapes to go scraping by.
3. Slow and Steady! (wins the race ;-) Don't touch that Yaw or camera tilt, because the slightest movement is very apparent and will ruin the fluidity of the shot. You want to keep CONSISTENT, smooth, elegant cinematic moves.
4. IF you MUST pan, keep it SUUPER slow. Medium or fast pans are often blurry and dizzying. It also helps if your pan is tracking an object in frame (like the truck in my video)
5. Use Active Track or (with lots of practice) manually keep your main subject/object in the dead-center of frame, and slowly rotate (strafe right stick) and spin yaw (left stick) at the exact same speed, basically orbiting around your subject. When done well, it looks awesome!
Those are a quick 5 shooting tips, tricks and ideas - let me know of any other tricks you've learned down in the comments below!
