FLETCHER performing Wasted Youth - Vevo dscvr (Live). 2017
It was the late summer of 2015 when FLETCHER got the first big blast of how her music would connect with fans. "War Paint," her debut single about going to battle for any idea you truly believe in, became a Spotify viral hit, topping the streaming service's chart for two weeks and clocking almost five million views in a matter of weeks (it now has 18 million). With its fierce rhythm, passionate message and cagey hook, the singer's initial volley into the pop world was an indie smash.
Growing up in Asbury Park, NJ, Cari Fletcher was active in music and theatre as a child and teen. She was part of the group Lakoda Rayne that was featured on ‘The X Factor’ show, has studied at NYU's Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, and spent time collaborating with others in Nashville and New York to arrive at the music on her new 'Finding FLETCHER' EP, which features "Wasted Youth," the track she performed at our Vevo dscvr session, recorded in Brooklyn.
Long inspired by world music, strong beats often mark her work. "War Paint" had a pounding pulse. This new one follows suit. And her trademark eloquence rides the groove. She told People.com that she wants to make "pop music with substance; that means something and has something to say." "Wasted Youth" has a carpe diem thrust that is underscored in its music video. The 22-year-old singer has said it acknowledges that "youth isn't forever, love isn't forever...but memories are. We should always live in the moment, always."
