Dr. Babita S Gaikwad - Shahi Bread Bhalla
SHAHI BREAD BHALLA
Ingredients
10 white bread slices
2 cups milk
Oil for deep-frying
2 cups yogurt, chilled
2 tablespoons tamarind chutney
Salt to taste
½ teaspoon roasted cumin powder
½ teaspoon red chilli powder
Chopped fresh coriander leaves for garnishing
Stuffing
2 teaspoons chopped cashewnuts
2 teaspoons raisins
1-2 green chillies, chopped
2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh coriander leaves
1 teaspoon chopped ginger
Method
1. Soak bread slices in milk.
2. To make stuffing, combine cashewnuts, raisins, chillies, chopped coriander and ginger and mix well.
3. Mash bread slices and divide into equal portions. Fill each portion with the prepared stuffing, shape them into balls and flatten a little.
4. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai. Deep-fry the prepared bhallas till golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
5. Place the fried bhallas in a serving plate. Top with yogurt and tamarind chutney, sprinkle some salt, cumin powder and chilli powder. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve immediately.
