One nice thing about events like the IFA is that they give us the chance to go hands-on with phones we might have heard about already, but haven't yet had the chance to interact with ourselves. That's the case with Archos and its 53 Platinum, an Android smartphone the company announced back in April. Along with the 35 Carbon and 50 Platinum, the 53 was also crazy cheap, with a list price of only $250. Is it going to come across as a cheaply made phone, or would we be impressed by the build quality? We stopped by where Archos had set up at the IFA 2013 to take a look.
The Archos 53 Platinum has a 5.3-inch qHD display and runs a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 play -- sacrifices, maybe, but specs like that help Archos keep the price down. The phone has a mere 4GB of internal storage, but Archos lets you greatly expand upon that with microSD support. For cameras, there's an eight-megapixel main shooter, with a two-megapixel component around front.
