There's quite a few unanswered questions with regards to the FAA's recent registration process such as rules pertaining to FPV, LOS, BVLOS, height altitudes, and weight categories. And then there's the burning question of whether two sticks of butter was really the best example of determining the minimum weight of an rc aircraft requiring registration. All joking aside, what happens when you fly an aircraft under the minimum weight requirements? As long as general safety protocols are adhered to, is the sky the limit? The general consensus is that the sub 250-gram category (the bottom limit of what the FAA deems register-able) is open to full-tilt FPV, whether that's racing, exploring, or just operating without an FAA number affixed to the airframe. Of course, the argument of "it's the pilot, not the aircraft" is worth noting, but for nothing more than the challenge of making it work, I've decided to build a performance-oriented FPV flying wing that comes in under 249 grams, and therefore does not require a registration number.
