Greetings! This past Sunday morning I opened up my fridge and look upon the aftermath of the Holiday season. It was jam packed. I took some time and cleaned it out. In there I had stowed a box of puff pastry to thaw and never used it. I had to use it or lose it. Much to the happiness of my family I decided to make cheese danish!
This is simple and delicious and when you use the frozen puff pastry it takes no time at all! A simple cheese filling using cream cheese, powdered sugar an egg and some vanilla gets you all ready. I also added some pineapple jam to half of the lot and boy were they delicious. I topped them off with a simple icing glaze made with powdered sugar and milk and we were all set for a delicious Sunday breakfast that didn't cost me an arm and a leg. If we had a really nice bakery here these would easily cost two bucks a piece. I wouldn't pay that anyway and since we don't have a really good bakery, much less any bakery for that matter, we would have had to make them anyway.
I hope that you will try your hand at some homemade danish. The puff pastry makes it super easy. You can add just about any filling that you want. Any type of jam or jelly will make the perfect filling or you could rehydrate some dehydrated apples and toss with granulated sugar and cinnamon and put that inside. You make them the way you like them!
