While the prior version was known for having decent mid range performance this new one is slower both in its CPU and GPU. It struggled with Kodi and other enthusiast tasks like cord cutting applications.
The device also lacks USB ports so it's not possible to expand it with additional storage.
It does support 4k video playback with HDR quite smoothly for services that support it. But that now is the only differentiation between this device and the more affordable Fire Stick. And in many cases the 4k HDR support may already be built into your fancy new TV making this device unnecessary.
