Michel A. Boudrias, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and Department Chair in Marine Science and Environmental Studies at the University of San Diego. He received his B.Sc in Marine Biology from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, his M.Sc. in Biological Oceanography from Oregon State University and his Ph.D. in Oceanography from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UCSD. Michel teaches classes that cover a wide range of topics from introductory marine biology to interdisciplinary coastal environmental science to classical invertebrate zoology. His primary research area focuses on the effects of anthropogenic pollution on shallow-water coastal habitats where his team investigates the impacts of organic loading from a fish cannery on the benthic and planktonic communities in Bahia Magdalena, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Dr. Boudrias is also the Academic Director for Sustainability at the University of San Diego where he is responsible for strategic planning and implementation of inter- and multidisciplinary courses and research projects. He sailed as a faculty member with Semester at Sea in Fall 2011.
