One of Graz’s most recognisable features and standing proudly in the centre of the city, the Schlossberg is a tree-covered hill that once served as a fortress and has now been converted into a public park. The history of the Schlossberg goes back to the 10th century and has been a main point of fortification and defence for the city. The Schlossberg has a beautiful park and an ornate set of stairs that criss-cross up the side of the hill and is the perfect place to see views of the city. There are few ways to get to the top of the 473 metre high Schlossberg: on the Schlossbergbahn funicular railway, in the glass lift that ascends inside the mountain or on foot up the Schlossbergstiege stairs. Once you're on top of the Schlossberg there's a lot to discover and a fabulous view to enjoy: from here you can see the red-title roofscape, the hills and the mountains in the distance. Things to see and do on Schlossberg hill:
1. Bell Tower, 2. Kasematten stage, 3. The Gothic gate, 4. Hackher lion, 5. Cannon bastion, 6. Stable bastion, 7. Chinese pavilion, 8. The Turkish well, 9. Starcke-haus, 10. Clock tower, 11. The restaurants on Schlossberg hill.
