Utilizing a host of new tech, Nike says that this cleat is one of the best fitting Mercurials ever. So Cole grabbed a pair of the Mercurial Superflys and Vapors, and went out to the field to play test and review them.
Grab a pair of the new Nike Mercurial 360’s here:
Here are Cole’s thoughts on the new Mercurial Superfly and Vapor:
FIT: The new Flyknit upper and soleplate creates a 360-degree fit around the foot of all Flyknit. By coating each individual flyknit strand this is supposed to make the upper softer, and more sock-like.
The inner chassis and sole plate were very responsive and the traction was superb. I didn’t have any issues with comfort at all during my time in the boot.
TOUCH: With the upper being just Flyknit, this might be one of the most barefoot like sensations I’ve ever had from a boot. It really is just you and the ball, and your touch better be good. The micro-texture does offer a little bit of control when dribbling and passing the ball. With how thin the upper is, I did have to get use to how barefoot the touch is, but once I did, it was a nice addition to the boot.
TRACTION: Of course, we can’t forget one of the best looking parts of the boots, the outsole. Going with a split plate, or podular plates as Nike calls it, allows for a lighter and more natural fit along your foot. While the stud pattern is the same as we’ve seen on previous Mercurials, the podular design brings another aspect to the fit. It’s quite comfortable and the traction is very aggressive. I didn’t have any issues with traction whether I was accelerating, decelerating, or cutting.
OVERALL : Once you break it in, the upper is softer than right out of the box and offers a nice around the foot. The responsive plate was a highlight for me, as that’s something I really enjoy in a speed boot. I didn’t notice much of the podular sole plate, which is fine by me because that means I’m not thinking about it during my games.
