WOLFENSTEIN: THE NEW ORDER FIRST DETAILS (Escapist News Now)
Bethesda announced they are bringing back one of the most influential first person shooters of all time, Wolfenstein.
Developed by MachineGames, The New Order puts players in an alternate history in the 1960s where the Nazis won World War 2. Protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz has been locked in an asylum since defeating robo-Hitler, and now must escape.
Branded as a story-driven first person action adventure, players will see various locales including fleeing by car through the Polish mountains and exploring Berlin catacombs. Events in this alternate world mirror real events, such as having the Nazis win the race to the moon.
The game will feature super-intense fast paced combat, with retro sci-fi weapons like a laser mini-gun and robo-dogs. There will also be a focus on movement including sliding and moving around cover. But it isn't all corridor shooting, there will be exploratory elements where you can interact with other characters in the world and solve puzzles.
MachineGames said that there will not be a multiplayer mode. Instead they will focus on the single-player experience.
Bethesda said they are slated for a Q4 release on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 and yes next-gen is in the plans.
