Opinion - Disney Gets Digital Distribution Right - Blu-ray Comes with Digital Version on 5 services

Buy it on Amazon - (affiliate link) - I was pleasently surprised to learn the Aladdin Blu-ray I recently purchased came with free HD copies on five major digital platforms.
For the $25 purchase price I received Blu-ray and DVD discs as well as a coupon that linked to a Disney service called DisneyMoviesAnywhere.com that unlocked the HD digital version on iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, Vudu, and Microsoft (including Windows and Xbox).
It's great to see that studios are finally waking up and providing consumers the flexibility and content portability they want without forcing a re-purchase of a film multiple times for every platform. It's not quite DRM-free but close to it.
Just be sure to choose your accounts carefully. After the initial setup any subsequent movies redeemed with a coupon will also immediately be unlocked on the linked digital platforms. Disney allows account changes only once every 180 days and once a movie is redeemed and linked to one of the digital providers it cannot be transferred to another account on that service. Once the account link is changed all future redemptions will go to the new account.
This is a very positive step for the industry and one I hope is replicated by other studios.
