Kara Marni - Love Just Ain't Enough an exclusive live performance for Vevo DSCVR, the channel for the best in new music.
You’ve got to have guts to try your hand at Minnie Ripperton’s “Lovin’ You.” Off-kilter versions of the 70’s classic are many; it’s a song of nuance and control, and it takes some doing to get it right. But back in her high school days, Kara Marni took a shot at it and emerged victorious. In fact, it’s part of what got the 20-year-old London native her initial notice in the biz, and she hasn’t looked back since.
Our new DSCVR artist is not only known for her amazing voice and skills when it comes to covers (her dad’s extensive vinyl collection turned her on to everything from Roberta Flack to Chaka Khan) but writing personal songs that are evocative and catchy. She’s said that her sound is a blend of old-school soul and current music (of many stripes), and her recent successes like headlining a sold out bill at the Lexington club in London and earning kudos from critics suggest that she’s broadening her fanbase with every passing month.
There’s lots of emotional power in her new ‘Love Just Ain’t Enough’ EP, and when she brought her band into the DSCVR studio for a performance of the title cut, that oomph came right along with her. We’re thinking she’s an old soul in a newcomer’s body, and we can’t wait for you hear her impressive spin through “Love Just Ain’t Enough.”
