1. Learn people skills
He earned a BA in Computer Science from Columbia, and an MS in Computer Science from UCLA.
2. Think for yourself
He began his career as an engineer at Silicon Graphics in the early 1990s.
3. Have courage
He joined Marc Andreessen at Netscape as one of Netscape’s first product managers.
4. Try to do something important
After Netscape was acquired by AOL, he served as Vice President of AOL’s eCommerce Division.
5. Follow your contribution
In September 1999, Horowitz cofounded Loudcloud.
6. Work hard
He began a transformation of Loudcloud into Opsware, an enterprise software company.
7. Don't quit
He was Loudcloud’s and Opsware’s President and CEO for the entire history of the company.
8. Get leverage
He spent one year at Hewlett-Packard as Vice President and General Manager in HP Software.
9. Make a difference
Horowitz and Andreessen launched Andreessen Horowitz, to invest in early-stage startups.
10. Do the hard things
Andreessen Horowitz began with $300 million, and within three years they had $2.7 billion under management.
