So, I thought I would have a closer look and verify some of the features of the HBX Thruster ... and at the same time prepare it for the first run.
Apart from a little damaged 12 mm hex, I was happy to find real oil filled shocks with optional mounting positions, several metal parts, adjustable tie-rods/links and full ball bearings. I was also happy to find a well working 4WD with a 2.4 Ghz 3-channel radio system and 2-speed transmission along with standard compatible 12 mm hex adaptors.
The only design-wise thing that sets this little Rock Racer apart from the more expensive RTR models, is the compatibility of the electronic system. I do not expect the size of servos and motor of a 1/12th scale model to be compatible to the 1/10th scale models, but I am a little anxious about the 2-in-1 ESC/Receiver unit and the special power adaptor for the battery. I am also a little curious to find out for how long spare parts will be available.
If you are new to the hobby or/and just have received your first HBX 12889 Thruster (or other model) you might wanna check out the last part of this video. Here you can see how to charge your battery and how to prepare it for the first run. As with all RTR vehicles there are certain steps to take in the beginning, in order to avoid any surprises.
I would love to hear your opinion about the HBX Thruster! Below you can find selected specifications. Check out my channel for many more models from HBX, Tamiya, Traxxas and others.
