Today we're tackling one of life's big questions: Are granola bars a snack or a cookie? Take the official granola bar poll on our Facebook page. [] The truth is, however you like to eat them, this recipe will hit the spot. That's right, I said "recipe." No store-bought bars here!
Sarah's Tip of the Day:
Making your own granola bars is cheaper, and it means you can customize them to your tastes: Start with some old-fashioned oats, then add dried fruit (I use cranberries; you could use golden raisins, currants, or dried cherries), nuts (again, I use almonds; you could use peanuts, walnuts, pecans ... options are endless!), a nut butter (almond, peanut, sunflower ... take your pick!), brown sugar, vegetable oil, cinnamon, and an egg white. Press into a pan, bake for half an hour, then cut into bars. Bake some up this weekend to have throughout the week -- you won't go back to packaged granola bars again!
