This is a twist to the traditional fried bread/Mandazi and can be enjoyed with a cup of tea or coffee.
Ing:
3 cups white all purpose flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1 egg
8 tbsp sugar ( I would add more if you want it sweet)
1 tsp yeast
pinch of salt
8 tbsp of oil
8 tbsp water
1/2 cup water (lukewarm)
1/2 cup milk (lukewarm)
Method:
In a separate cup add the yeast, 1 tbsp sugar, milk and water until it is frothy to make sure that the yeast is active. In a separate bowl or flat tray start adding the flour, oil, cocoa, egg, sugar and egg, mix with your hand until it starts coming together a little bit then add the salt and slowly add the yeast and milk mixture until the dough comes together. If the dough is sticky then sprinkle some flour on it until it is not sticky at all. Knead the dough for about 5 min and let the dough proof until it is half way doubling in size. Divide the dough in two then take one of the doughs and roll it out to about 1/4 of an inch then decide what you want to do with the shapes or just cut them in diamonds and start putting them on a tray until they have proffed and then warm up your oil and start frying them and sprinkle them with powdered sugar.
Enjoy!
Makes about 20 depending on what size and shape you decide to make.
