Runcam Split V1 with a 2.8mm lens

One of the things I never really liked about the Split was the distortion and super wide FOV that came with the stock lens. Judging by the conversations I've had with other pilots and the fact that Runcam released a better option for the "GoPro quality" lens shortly after the camera went on sale, I'd say I wasn't the only one... lol I never did pick up that better lens to try out, but recently I found this old 2.8mm "megapixel" IR blocked lens in my box of camera parts, so I put it aside to try it, hoping it would work well with the Split. It does work somewhat, and I definitely like the FOV better, but the lens seems lower quality overall, it's not as sharp as the stock one and has more glare (or is it flare?) when the sun is in view. The colors were also off a bit even with the IR filter in the lens, and I needed some post processing to get the video to look more natural. Personally I'd love to find a high quality lens with this same FOV, but for now this was a fun experiment anyway. ;)

If you already have the V1 with the original lens and want the optional GoPro quality lens, you can get it here: (Note, this is NOT the lens I used in the video, but should be a better alternative, but with a slightly wider FOV.)

Here's some affiliate links to the video gear I use from Ready Made R/C:
1.3GHz video transmitters (I use 200, 400, 800, and 1500mW on various planes)
I recommend this receiver to go with them. I use an older Racewood type they used to sell, but these are supposed to be at least as good with the same Comtech tuners in them. Apparently Racewood is no longer in business, so here's what replaced them:
I use this 8dbi Patch Antenna, it has been my go-to antenna for a long time now, for years! lol I've been out more then 10 miles using one of these and the 800mW vtx listed above:
On the transmitter side, the stock dipoles that come with them work pretty good together with that patch, but if you want slightly better performance and less weight/drag, consider these:
