A batch of Furibee DarkMax 220 is affected by issues caused by a new version of the flight controller. Symptoms include flips of death, unstoppable rolls, or sudden loss of power. The issue only presents itself on on FULLY CHARGED 4S or higher voltage batteries with a good discharge rating. 3S batteries are not affected at all. Based on this, I believe there is a voltage regulation issue causing the board to freeze/crash that cannot be solved with a firmware update.
To fix this problem is not hard -- it requires a new flight control board of the previous version. All you need to replace is the FC, even if Gearbest sends you a complete stack, there is no need to swap out the ESC board as that is not the issue.
Replacing the FC requires no soldering. The connections are made with plugs. This video will show you how to replace it correctly and set up the betaflight firmware. It also contains an overview of everything I tried to do in order to fix the faulty board.
