I've used dozens of Epson printers over the years, and each iteration has been a good improvement over the last. This is a capable photo printer that produces excellent quality results when used with the proper paper.
The printer is very easy to configure via WiFi. My Mac, Windows 8 PC, and iPhone all detected the printer once it was connected to my home network. The printer shows up as an 'air print' device within iOS and I was able to print borderless photos directly from my phone's camera roll. I did need to make sure my Mac was using the Epson driver vs. the air print default that OS X prompted me to use initially.
Photo quality is excellent on high quality glossy photo paper. To all but discerning eyes these prints will look close to what might come out of a local photo lab. A very close look at the prints will reveal very fine dots that comprise the image but it's very difficult to see those from a distance. The printer uses 5 inks: A high capacity black ink, another "photo black" ink, cyan, magenta, and yellow.
I am not crazy about the paper handling system. It doesn't hold much paper and the trays can easily be pushed in too far.
When combining the expensive photo quality paper with equally expensive ink cartridges, the cost per print is probably equal to or greater than the price of using a photo lab to make digital prints. So be sure to factor in the overall cost of ownership vs. the very reasonable entry cost of the hardware.
