The OnHub configures through an app in only a few minutes. Android configuration is even simpler due to a unique audio method that requires no passwords or data entry to get started.
The router itself is very limited in its overall feature set - something Google did on purpose to make this less intimidating to non-tech savvy consumers. As such it might be best described as a router on auto-pilot, given it does so much on its own to maintain a reliable network connection.
The router has a 1.3 gigabit (theoretical) 3x3 802.11ac wireless radio at 5ghz as well as a wireless N radio at 2.4 ghz. There are six antennas for each band built internally into the device with an additional antenna and radio at the top that actively monitors the wireless environment. That third radio will dynamically instruct the router to change frequencies to eliminate interference.
Google will update the device automatically and in the background without any user intervention. Security updates as well as functionality changes will be pushed to the router on a regular basis.
Overall this is a very simple to use router which might be a turn-off for the more tech savvy looking for more configuration options. But for those who just want something that works, this might be the easiest consumer router available.
