The Z2 Force is a top tier performer thanks to its Snapdragon 835 processor. Gaming benchmarks rival that of the Nvidia Shield TV and are in line with other phones based on the same chipset like the Samsung Galaxy S8.
The phone's design may not turn any heads but it is much thinner and lighter than previous Motorola phones I have tested. That design comes at the expense of the larger batteries typically packed into Motorola's other top end phones.
But this phone is compatible with Motorola's "Moto Mods." They are snap on modules that bring more advanced cameras, game controllers, battery boosters, game controllers, and other peripherals. So it's possible to buy your way to better battery performance.
Because this mod system might make finding a case difficult the phone is using Motorola's "shatterproof" screen. It largely accomplishes the goal but it can still take on scratches and display damage if dropped on small rocks or gravel. The front lens can be replaced if it gets scuffed up but only by Motorola's repair center.
It's only weak spot is the camera system. 4k video appears to drop frames while recording and it lacks optical image stabilization. The depth effect feature that comes thanks to its dual camera system is not as good as the same feature on the iPhone 7 Plus.
But all in it's a great performing phone that will certainly please gamers. I do think the camera system needs improvement to justify the high price tag.
