Magatte Wade, an African serial social entrepreneur, presented "The Four Stages of Bringing an Idea to Life." She asserted how today everyone wants to work with tech companies and never for other consumer brands, to which she replied, "More room for me." After $32 million raised, she abandoned her Sengalese beverage company to create a high-end natural skin-care company. She knew that for the world to change its perception of Africa, and for Africa to change its perception of the world, that she should use the power of consumer brands: "At the end of the day, we are nothing more or less than human beings. I want to enhance the human experience."
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
