When Ari Lennox was three years old, her grandma told her she had an angelic voice. From then on, the R&B upstart was singing. Her steamy old school vibe with a modern boss-lady feel was inspired by string of soulful vocalists that include everyone from Mariah Carey to Minnie Ripperton. The DMV native had enough chops to participate in a couple of television singing competitions, and along the way, wooed fans with impressive covers of hits that she placed on social media, at one point using her Tinder page to push suitors toward a sleek version of “Drunk In Love.” These days, J. Cole’s got her. The Dreamsville boss's co-sign has earned Ari lots of next-level cred, and it's backed-up by the superb vibe of her debut album, 'Shea Butter Baby.' She hit our DSCVR studio for a sizzling run through the record's "Static."
