Today's pop culture and box office are obsessed with super-heroes, but The Boys warns us not to glorify any individual. They satirize athletes, religion, politicians, as well as the heroes themselves. Numerous references to the #marvelcinematicuniverse, and Zach Snyder's #DCEU permeate the show. There are even references to #BreakingBad mixed in for good measure.
The new #Amazon series does a fantastic job examining what it would be like if #comicbook #superheroes actually existed. Most of these heroes were created in the early 20th century, when the New Deal and confidence in authority was high...so what if they were raised in the modern-day technocratic 21st century? Basically, what if #superman and #captainamerica were giant jerks, and a corporation controlled #TheAvengers and the #JusticeLeague -- you know, like they do in real life.
