120V 60Hz from a power tool battery...but check the small print first
The Ryobi Inverter takes an 18V power tool battery and turns it into a power outlet - but it might not be as useful as you think. (Expand This Text Box to read more)
IMPORTANT NOTE:
For 120V 60Hz I will *continue to use my existing setup* - shown at 02:20 and 05:23. It isn’t as neat, but it does not generate a buzz.
The only reason I mention this here is that there may be suggestions of alternative devices, filters, UPS things and power banks etc that might possibly achieve what I’m already achieving with my existing setup... I’m just going to keep using that.
Just a couple of extra things
UPS devices are HEAVY - the cost of importing a decent one from the USA to the UK is prohibitive. That’s if you can find anyone willing to ship one to here. There’s also all the regulations about transporting batteries on planes now (even in cargo).
The Ryobi 40V version of this inverter does use pure sine - but they don’t sell the 40V battery system here in the UK. So again it’s back to importing a battery - pricey and potentially problematic.
Also since there’s no 230V charger for the Ryobi 40V system - that would be a big downside. I don’t want to be running a charger through a step down transformer for hours on end. That would also be a concern with any US sourced UPS or Portable Power Station - the power input would be 120V so again that would mean running or charging them through a step down power transformer - it’s all just a bit messy and unsuitable.
The idea of trying this Ryobi system was to minimise clutter and come up with a neater solution to my existing setup. All these alternatives do the opposite.
So I’ll just keep using my existing system that works well. I got this Ryobi inverter to see if it would be worth recommending this to other people in the UK with similar requirements to myself, but it isn’t.
